The results of the Night Run 5km race are now available here. We had a very successful night, with over 110 runners completing the 5km race in the dark. Watching from the finish line, it looked amazing to see those headlights bobbing along down the road, alongside the flaming barrells, and the crowds at the finish line cheering everyone along.

It’s almost time for what could be one of the most exciting evenings in Athletic history in Sligo. In a little over 24 hours time, on Thursday 23rd June 2016, the 5,000m Olympic Qualifying event will be run off on the track at Knocknarea Arena, IT Sligo. There’s a whole timetable of different events taking place on the evening, starting from 6:30pm, so our advice is to get there early to stake prime viewing position.
We’ve reproduced the timetable below, so get a good look at it, and remember, bring your maracas, your Brazilian flags, shirts, banners, anything and everything that’ll contribute to the atmosphere. Let’s bring Rio to Sligo for one night!!
In honour of this great evening Thursday’s training at Corran Park has been cancelled. So you’ve no excuse.
Following the great successes of the younger athletes of Corran AC in the Connacht Championships in Galway last weekend, we are now gearing up for the Under 13s to Under 18s Championships. These are a little closer to home, taking place at the track in the IT, Sligo on next Saturday, 18th June 2016.
To help you work out what events are happening when, and who’s competing in what, we’ve created two handy documents for you below. You can view these on your computer, tablet or phone, or you can print them out if you like, whatever is the handiest for you.
The schedule for the Under 9s, 10s, 11s and 12s has been issued for the Connaught Championships, which take place this year in Dangan in Galway. The first list below is the order of the events, with the first event kicking off at 10:00 A.M.
Underneath that, we’ve listed all Corran AC athletes who are taking part and what event you’re competing in.
Check it out, and if there are any problems, contact us directly through the FaceBook page or by using the Contact Us form on this website, or contact any member of the committee.
The second race in the 2016 SuperValu Fit4Life Sligo Women’s 5k Race Series took place on Tuesday 31st May, hosted this week in Tubbercurry by South Sligo Athletic Club. A huge field of 156 women took to the roads around Tubbercurry, and Corran AC was represented by five runners, who each performed very well under the evening sunshine.
First woman home on the night was the ever present Lucy Brennan of Sligo AC in a time of 18:49, followed 18 seconds later by her club mate Mari Johnston. Third place this week went to Andrea Horgan from North Sligo AC, in a time of 19:58.
The five Corran AC women all posted great times, with Holly Hannon leading the charge in a time of 23:15, and 30th across the line overall. She was followed 3 seconds later by her running mate, Sandra Lang (23:18) and only four seconds behind her was club newcomer, Gráinne Shanley in 23:22, in 34th position. Only ten places behind Gráinne was Marita Brehony, in a time of 24:33 and a little further back the field was Michelle McGlone, with a time of 27:16.
We also noticed a few names from around Ballymote who took part on the evening who aren’t registered with Corran AC, great to see the running bug is rubbing off on our neighbours and friends. Ladies, you’d be very welcome to come along and join us at Corran AC if you’d like some friendship and helpful advice while running.
The full results are available here, if you wish to look at them in a bit more detail.
Last Friday Corran u9-u11s dominated the Sligo county championships for a second year in a row. We gave you the photos on our facebook page last week but the results are now available here.
23 medals were won by the 37 Corran AC athletes who competed – more than any of the other, longer established clubs in Sligo – which was a fantastic achievement by these young up-and-coming stars of the future.
